FreeBSD merupakan sistem pengendalian PERCUMA dan sumber terbuka yang berasal dari UNIX melalui rantaian 386BSD dan 4.4BSD Berkeley Software Distribution (BSD). Ia boleh digunakan pada beberapa jenis makro pemproses serasi Intel x86, DEC Alpha, UltraSPARC oleh Sun Microsystems, Itanium (IA-64) dan AMD64 makro pemproses. Sokongan untuk senibina PowerPC and ARM sedang dalam pembangunan.

FreeBSD dibina bersama sebagai satu sistem operasi yang lengkap. Kernelnya, kesemua utiliti yang diperlukan seperti 'shell' dan 'device driver' adalah disimpan didalam kod sumber yang sama. Ia berlainan dari Linux, sesuatu yang sama dan merupkan klon-unix yang lebih terkenal, dimana kernelnya dibina oleh kumpulan yang lain, utilitinya dibina oleh kumpulan yang lain seperti projek GNU,dan diolah sebagai [[sistem operasi] yang lengkap sebagai edaran Linux oleh kumpulan yang lain.

Sebagai sistem operasi, FreeBSD boleh dianggap boleh dipercayai dan handal, dan ia merupakan sistem operasi yang melaporkan 'uptime remotely' dengan tepat. FreeBSD adalah satu-satunya sistem operasi percuma disenaraikan didalam masa 'uptime' paling lama untuk pelayan web oleh Netcraft.

At any stage MDeC reserves the right to withhold any reimbursement to the trainee until milestones are deemed achieved by MDeC. Trainees who successfully submit their application to the Facebook Application Directory are obligated to report monthly usage and income of their application until Dec 2010. This is to enable MDeC to accurately measure the success of this program and the information will be anonymized and aggregated before publication. Trainees will also be obligated to participate in any MDeC promotional and awareness events.
